Another year coming to an end

Posted by saiofwdc on May 31, 2012

The DC Alumnae Chapter had a lot of great highlights this 2011-2012 year, including musicales for the public, new affiliates and patronesses, a new Friend of the Art early on in the fall, and much more.  Speaking of new affiliates, the chapter’s May meeting was full of ritual and welcoming many new people to our chapter.  We affiliated 4 new members; 2 new patronesses, and assisted in conducting a Friend of the Arts ceremony for our national organization.  Here’s the group shot that shows the latest set of individuals that are a part of the DC Alums:

Postings may be leaner during the summer, but our chapter activities will resume in September.  So, stay tuned!

Meet the Composer/Founders’ Day Tea event

Posted by saiofwdc on May 1, 2012

On April 22, the chapter hosted our annual Founders’ Day Tea ceremony coupled with a Meet the Composer presentation.

Our Meet the Composer segment typically features a local composer in the Greater Washington, DC area who talks to our group not only about their music, but how they came to be a composer.  This year’s composer was Jerzy Sapieyevski.

Mr. Sapieyevski is an accomplished composer/musician and lecturer as well as music professor at American University.  To read his bio, click here.  During his talk, he shared his love of George Gershwin and Chopin.  At the piano, he played excerpts of his compositions and did let the audience hear recorded selections of other pieces including piano, chamber, and vocal works with touches of electronic instrumentation.

If you are interested in hearing his music, please visit musichappens.com.
